"I always feel like I see the moment too late"
You have the camera, the motivation, and the desire to create great street photographs, but somehow you're not getting the results you want.
Instead of photographing with purpose, you spend hours rushing from one place to the next without a clear focus. You know there are photographic opportunities all around you, but you're not always sure what to look for or how to recognise them in time.
And when an interesting situation finally appears, it often catches you by surprise. Instead of anticipating the moment, you're forced to react, to realise a second later that the 'right' frame has already passed. The result? Missed opportunities, frustration, and the feeling that you're relying more on luck than on skill.
Well... you are not alone. And the good news is that street photography doesn't have to work that way. Learning to see, anticipate and make intentional decisions is a skill you can train.

✅ Spot and predict photographic opportunities before they unfold
✅ Know where to stand to create stronger street photographs
✅ Work a scene instead of walking away too soon
✅ Make faster photographic decisions and stop missing moments
✅ Discover the excitement of the hunt and reignite the spark for
street photography

What you'll learn in 1,5 hour
In this module you'll practise how to observe before you start to photograph. You'll learn how to position yourself strategically, identify potential visual elements of the location, such as reflections or backgrounds, and recognise photographic opportunities from a distance. You'll also learn to pre-visualise the movement of potential subjects, understand how scenes develop and how you can work with the existing light.
Outcome
✅ You'll develop observational skills, needed to predict and anticipate
✅ You'll be prepared for stronger photographs, even before pressing the shutter
In the second part, you'll learn how to turn observation into action. You'll discover how to move around a scene with purpose, scan for opportunities while on the move, and position yourself before a promising moment unfolds. Sometimes that means moving quickly, other times, it means recognising when to stop, stay patient, and let the scene come to you.
Through examples from my own work, I'll show you how I think and see as a street photographer, how I choose my position based on light, framing and potential, and, most importantly.. how I decide when to press the shutter.
Outcome
✅ You'll stop reacting too late
✅ You'll gain confidence in your movements and decisions
✅ You'll replace luck with a clear approach to street photography
Optional: A Live Group Portfolio Review (max 20 spots!)

A few weeks after the course, we'll meet for a live online portfolio review. You'll receive personal feedback on up to 5 of your street photographs, either from the course assignments or your existing portfolio.
The session will help you better understand your own photography and make stronger, more intentional images.
To keep the sessions personal, participants will be divided into two small groups.
September 26:
Session 1: 10-11h (Amsterdam time)
Session 2: 13-14h (Amsterdam time)
September 27:
Session 3: 10-11h (Amsterdam time)
Session 4: 13-14h (Amsterdam time)
Your time slot will be assigned after registration.
Can't make the live session? You'll receive a written review of your submitted images instead.

"The Power of Improvisation Lies in Preparation"

I've spent countless hours photographing the streets, including producing a weekly assignment for Amsterdam's main newspaper Het Parool. Working on a deadline helped me develop a proven approach to finding and capturing stronger moments consistently.
Through my workshops, I've shared this approach with dozens of photographers, helping them improve their observational skills, decision-making, and confidence on the street.
Alongside my work as photographer, I've spent more than 10 years as a photo editor for Dutch national TV news (RTL Nieuws) and I've been curating the popular StreetRepeat Instagram account. Reviewing thousands of photographs has taught me to quickly identify what makes an image work, and spotting opportunities for improvement.

Results of participants..

"I was wondering: how can I get closer in a comfortable way through street photography? I managed to achieve this at the skate park by finding a place where the skaters kept coming back."
"This gave me time to practice and to explore different compositions that felt right for the scene."
Annemarie

"Inspired by Julie Hrudová in capturing everyday little absurdities, I am very happy with this capture by myself."
Thea

"Feeling more confident on the streets!"
Alan

Is this course for you?
✅ "I understand my camera settings, but I still struggle to create photographs I'm proud of"
Yes! This course isn't about settings. It's about learning how to recognise photographic opportunities, anticipate moments, and refine your approach to creating stronger images.
✅ "I have limited time to shoot and want to return home with more successful images"
You're not alone. While street photography requires time and practise, having a clear framework will help you recognise potential situations more quickly, move with greater purpose and make intentional decisions in the field. You'll make the most of the time and return home with images you're excited about.
✅ "I am new to street photography. Isn't this course too advanced?"
Not at all. This course is designed as a step-by-step approach, making it accessible even if you're just getting started. Instead of figuring everything out on your own, you'll follow a clear structure that helps you build confidence and develop the right habits from the beginning.
